Children sometimes have difficulty pronouncing certain sounds or sound combinations. As a result, words are pronounced incorrectly. A delay in speech development can cause problems: the child is not well understood by those around him or her and cannot express himself or herself properly. When they get older, they may not be taken seriously by others. This can lead to behavioural problems: the child becomes rebellious and angry when not understood or begins to withdraw more and more.
Using a behavioural approach and with parents as co-therapists, these sounds are taught and implemented in the context of everyday speech.
